Miscellaneous Bills - Part II
Aloha - Hawaiian
Novelty Money Bill # 210
Our Aloha bill commemorates that great Hawaiian Aloha
Spirit, which is often described as a sense of hospitality and care for those
around, as well as respect for their personhood, even in the face of stressful
environments. Aloha basically means love, affection, peace, mercy,
compassion, and even goodbye and hello. It is the Aloha Spirit from which
the State of Hawaii gets its official nickname. The back of the bill
commemorates that famous surfing term, Hang Ten, in which a surfer will stand at
the front of a surf board and wrap the ten toes of the feet around the front of
the surfboard while surfing the waves, a famous past-time in Hawaii.

Cigar Aficionado
Novelty Money Bill # 208
Our Cigar Aficionado bill commemorates
the great cigar. Cigars are generally regarded as a stereotypical rich man's
accessory. Cigars are often smoked to celebrate good fortune,
such as the birth of a child, a graduation, a big business
success, etc. Some aficionados buy and keep a cigar for luck with
regard to a bet, with the intention of smoking it after winning
the bet. The expression "close, but no cigar," which
is generally uttered after a near
win, is derived from that tradition.

Find a Cure - Breast Cancer
Novelty Money Bill # 221
Our Find a Cure bill pertains to that serious
disease known as breast cancer, which can affect both men and women, although it
is less common in men. Breast cancer facts presented on the back of the
bill are:
The lifetime risk of breast cancer is 1 in 9.
80% of breast cancers occur in post-menopausal women.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women - nearly 1 in 3
(30%) of all cancers in women occur in the breast.
Only 5% - 10% of breast cancers are hereditary/family history.
9 out of 10 breast lumps are not a sign of breast cancer.
90% of breast cancers are first spotted by women themselves or their
partners.
Women in the U.S.
have 1 in 8 lifetime chance of developing breast cancer, and a 1
in 33 chance of dying from breast cancer. The number of
cases has significantly increased in the past 30 years, partly
because of modern Western lifestyles.
This bill serves as a
reminder of the dangers of breast cancer and the need to Find a
Cure!

Sea Shell
Novelty Money Bill # 181

While many sea animals produce exoskeletons, also known as sea shells, usually only the
shells of
mollusks are considered to be "sea shells." Over time, as the
animal inside grows, it will add its building material to the
leading edge of the shell near the opening. This causes the shell to become longer and wider. Each species of mollusk animals
will build the external shell in specific shape, pattern, ornamentation, and
color. Mollusk shells (especially those formed by marine species) are very
durable and greatly outlast the otherwise soft-bodied animals that produced them.
Shells of marine mollusks (some of which wash up on beaches and are
therefore easily found without specialized equipment) are called "seashells,"
and are collected by a large number of enthusiasts.

Smiley Face
Novelty Money Bill # 215

The smiley face, which represents a smiling human face, is commonly depicted as a yellow button
with two dots representing eyes, and a half circle representing the mouth.
Although the
origin of the smiley is not completely known, the earliest examples of the
graphic are attributed to
Harvey
Ball, who devised the face for State Mutual Life Assurance of Worcester,
Massachusetts in 1963. Ball never attempted to use, promote or
trademark
the image and it fell into the public domain in the United States.
The back of the bill pictures the Peace symbol, which was designed and completed
in 1958 by a commercial designer and artist in Britain named Gerald Holtom.
The symbol itself is a combination of the semaphoric signals for the letters "N"
and "D," standing for Nuclear Disarmament. In semaphore the
letter "N" is formed by a person holding two flags in an upside-down "V," and
the letter "D" is formed by holding one flag pointed straight up and the other
pointed straight down. These two signals, imposed over each other, form the
shape of the peace symbol.
So, our Be Happy bill is really a symbol of love. Be happy. Smile. Give peace a
chance. Order some bills today!
