Blue Whales were found in all oceans around the world in the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Heavy hunting by whalers nearly led to their extension. In 2002, it was estimated that there were no more than 12,000 Blue Whales left. Blue Whales feed exclusively on krill, which are shrimp-like marine invertebrate animals. The whale feeds by lunging forward at groups of krill. It takes the animals and a large quantity of water into its huge mouth. The water is then squeezed out through its baleen plates by pressing the tongue up against the water. Once the mouth is clear of water, the remaining krill, unable to pass through the plates, are swallowed.

This makes the trunk sensitive enough to pick up a single blade of grass, yet strong enough to rip the branches off a tree. An elephant's tusks are actually its second upper incisors. Its tusks grow continuously; about seven inches a year. Tusks are used by the elephant to dig for water, salt, and roots; to debark trees, to eat the bark; to dig into trees to get at the pulp inside; and to move trees and branches when clearing a path.
